Mrs. Charles S. Powell journal, 1885-1887.

Manuscript journal kept by Mrs. Charles S. Powell of Henrico County, Va. from January 1, 1885 to January 7, 1887. The journal entries document Mrs. Smith's home life, farming, and the financial and emotional demands of raising a large family while her husband worked at distant jobs. Also discussed are schooling of her children; attendance at religious revivals, church services at the Antioch Baptist Church, and temperance meetings; illness; and depression. Entries from October 1886 are missing.
